We envision a global supply chain that produces legal, traceable, trustworthy fish; that rewards responsible fishing with better prices; and that fosters resource conservation. Our goal is to use competition, innovation and collaboration to positively disrupt the current system in order to move closer to that vision, and ultimately drive the end of overfishing.
Our customers are those looking to effectively create positive change in the system and include investors, philanthropists, private enterprise, and entrepreneurs. Our services are as follows:
FOR INVESTORS AND PHILANTHROPISTS
Our in-depth primary research, whether journalistic or ethnographic, gathers insights from existing innovators in a system to show the status quo evolution of response to a complex problem. In every case, these Discovery Maps yield insights about where the aggregate energy in a system goes, and which aspects of a problem remain unaddressed. The analysis is a qualitative snapshot that yields both opportunities to drive change and opportunities for new markets. Our team brings more than 20 years of experience in applying this approach to complex problems ranging from human trafficking to overfishing to literacy.
Based on the core insights from our analysis, we recruit stakeholders in a system to co-design new solutions. We have developed filters for choosing participants, as well as a methodology for framing the collaboration, which have a proven track record of results. The ideas hatched from these business model design workshops typically move into incubation.
Business Ecosystem Collaboration
Having tested the leaders and ideas through the design workshop, we then move the group into an active collaboration - what we call a "pod" - which may span months or years. We provide ongoing support in the form of partnership brokerage, business advisory services to participants, as well as group facilitation. Typically, these pods are funded by a philanthropist or investor with specific desired outcomes. Future of Fish creates the framework to ensure that there is real value for the participants as well as the pod, an alignment of system-interest and self-interest.
The success of ecosystem collaboration depends on the viability of individual players and the strength of our relationships with them. We provide targeted incubation services to accomplish both of those goals.
Business Advisory Services
All entrepreneurs in our network receive 1-2 hours a month of in-person or phone coaching from advisors we've recruited in the areas of marketing, public speaking, finance, strategy, and capital placement. We ensure that they have access to the experience and insight they need to make smart choices.
We work with entrepreneurs to place their stories in traditional and online media outlets. We have a referral network of brand strategists and PR firms who can assist with more in-depth plans and execution.
We are continually looking for partners for our entrepreneurs, in many areas outside of their expertise and contact network. Because we engage longterm with our entrepreneurs, we are well-positioned to sort for fit and compatibility in a nuanced fashion.
FOR IMPACT INVESTORS AND LENDERS
We have a robust network of both impact and traditional investors and lenders. We know the fishing industry, as well as its related businesses, exceptionally well, so we are well positioned to coach investors unfamiliar with the risks and opportunities through the process. For entrepreneurs, we can provide appropriate matches, as well as advice and potentially support on becoming investment ready!
